“We have run rotary drum mixers in the past,” says the company’s founder and director, “and I don’t know how we could have handled some of these jobs with them. The project on the Isle of Gigha, for instance, would have meant filling rotary mixers at the batching plant then driving them to the ferry. It would have been very difficult to tie in with ferry sailings and, if the weather had stopped the ferry at short notice, we would have lost a load".

Instead, materials were ferried over in bulk and the Cementech machines loaded on site, remaining in position until the job was done rather than return to the mainland - a twenty minute journey from port to port not including boarding time. Without these mixers, it simply would not have been a viable proposition.

Having decided to acquire volumetric mixers, the company was impressed by recommendations of Armcon from other operators. Whilst in reality the mixers have been reliable, it felt comfortable with the level of backup we offered. Technical support in particular was important to them, especially when they began to operate the machines.

The most recent addition to their fleet is mounted on a Volvo FM12 8x4 rigid truck, with T-Ride high suspension for extra ground clearance, also supplied through Armcon. The vehicle has a Globetrotter sleeper cab, enabling the drivers to work remote locations without returning to base.

The MCD8MX-150s are equipped with the optional automatic sheeting system, making them suitable for quarry operation.
